A CentiMark Corporation Case Study: Henry Ford Health Care System

The Details:
CentiMark installed a 13,500 square feet fully-adhered EPDM (rubber) single ply roof system over the original hospital and 23,608 square feet over the B & F wings.
The Challenges:
The hospital and two wings had a very old, damaged retrofit roof. CentiMark was familiar with the roof and had repaired numerous leaks with some success. After CentiMark inspected the roof and implemented a preventive maintenance program, it was determined that the roof needed to be replaced.
The Solutions:
A BUR (built-up) roof system was discussed with the customer. Being sensitive to the healthcare environment, it was decided that a BUR system would not be appropriate due to odor, smoke and environmental issues. The fully-adhered EPDM single ply system was determined to be the best solution and included fully tapered saddles between drains and a continues walk pad system to accommodate roof traffic for various rooftop equipment.
CentiMark worked with the hospital through pre-job inspection and daily communication to minimize disruptions throughout the roofing project. Loading and unloading of materials were done on weekends to accommodate the parking needs of staff, patients and visitors. Through continuous communication with the hospital, CentiMark worked around the busiest hospital hours and kept equipment obstructions to a minimum. Additionally, another contractor working on the roof damaged the roof and it leaked during a rainstorm. Not only did CentiMark repair the leak on that section of the roof, but also cleaned up water inside the facility.
The Results:
Over the past years, CentiMark had built strong relationships with Henry Ford Health Care System. CentiMark inspected all of the roofs on the twenty buildings in the campus and developed and implemented a preventative maintenance program. CentiMark made recommendations for roof system solutions and provided budgetary information for the re-roofing project.
