Batten down the hatches is what sailors at sea used to say when a big storm was approaching. It was a warning call that trouble was brewing—and that preparations should be taken to minimize potential damage by making the ship as watertight as possible.
Managing the effects of heat stress for a roofing workforce is vital to the safety and well-being of the crews. Heat is an inherent hazard when working outdoors, especially working on building roofs. On average, the temperature on the roof is typically 30 degrees higher than ground temperature. Every organization should have a proper Heat Program in place.
A comprehensive training schedule is a key element to any safety program, regardless of the amount of people employed or the industry served. Everyday tendencies such as looking both ways before you cross the street or not touching a hot stove are things that we do not even need to think about because they are so ingrained in us throughout our life’s “training”.

After the difficult winter weather across the country, everyone is ready for spring! Snow, ice, hail, winds, rain and severe temperature changes can damage roof membranes, gutters, flashings and accessories.
One important task to prepare for spring is to schedule your roofing projects now.
Springtime for property managers and owners creates a sense of urgency around roof inspections and maintenance work after difficult winter weather across the country. Following the snow, sleet, ice, winds and temperature fluctuations (freeze/thaw), comes the rain, sleet, hail and wind of spring weather. These weather related issues can not only lead to roof leaks, but to other problems that may compromise or cause failure to your roof system. Additionally, your roof needs to be inspected and maintained to meet the requirements of a roof warranty.

Are there cracks, pot holes or areas that are heaving in your sidewalk, parking lot or parking deck? Have your surfaces sustained any damage from the weather or have areas showing signs of wear and tear? Maintaining your exterior surfaces will allow your building to make the best first impression.
As we change seasons, it is important to understand the impact that weather has on your building’s roof.
In the fall, your roof can get covered in leaves. Once the leaves fall, it is important that gutters and downspouts are free of debris and flowing properly. Additionally, if your area endured any significant storms, and you didn’t have your roof inspected after the storms, now is a good time. The inspection will identify damage and needed repairs, allowing you to get them fixed before winter.

Because of the sensitive nature of food processing, it was imperative they find a quick solution that would not contaminate any product. Ardent Mills turned to their national roofing partner, CentiMark.
