Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC was founded in the spirit of generosity. It was in June 1890 when the 15-bed Pittsburgh Hospital for Children opened its doors with a promise to serve every child in need “regardless of race, creed or the ability of their parents to pay the cost.”
Now, more than 125 years later, Children’s Hospital continues its commitment of care for every child thanks to the compassionate investment of community partners like CentiMark and caring individuals like Mr. Edward B. Dunlap.
While most Pittsburghers probably know that Children’s provides care to kids in need of everything from routine well visits to expert subspecialty care for the rarest of conditions, people might not know that our specialists further help to protect children facing abuse and neglect and offer care to kids in medically-underserved communities. And for more than 20 years, CentiMark and Chairman and CEO Ed Dunlap have paid particular attention to these children – arguably, the most vulnerable among us.
CentiMark has contributed generously in support of Children’s Child Advocacy Center (CAC), a center that provides comprehensive services to children and families when there are concerns of abuse and neglect with the hopes of decreasing abuse and promoting healthy families. And you’ve given to Children’s Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine – a multidisciplinary department that works to improve the health and well-being of youth through accessible health care, education, research, and engagement. You’ve offered tangible support to kids treated in our Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, the largest, most comprehensive childhood cancer and blood disease center in the region. CentiMark has given to benefit the many kids and families who utilize the Ronald McDonald CareMobile – a “doctor’s office on wheels” that brings medical care, immunizations, and health and wellness education to kids who are unable to visit a doctor regularly.
Words cannot express the depth of our gratitude for your investment in this significant work. As Children’s Child Advocacy Center Manager Jamie Mesar shares, “It is very meaningful to be able to help families by meeting their basic needs. I had a mother break down in tears when we gave her a gift card to help purchase clothes and shoes for her kids at the beginning of the school year. This simple act would not have been possible without CentiMark. We remain so grateful for your support.”
And so, as you celebrate your 50th anniversary year, know that we celebrate you, too. In every golf outing hosted, in every backpack given, in every gift card distributed, lives the tremendous potential of your generous commitment to our shared community. Thank you for giving with such purpose and congratulations on a 50-year history of excellence!
